Inventory Optimization/Process Improvement

Inventory Reduction & Process Optimisation Effects of Sentient Health MedTrac Implementation By DHL in Royal Brompton Cardiology

Sentient Health MedTrac was piloted at Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Trust (RBHT) enabling its cardiology department to increase its efficiency as well as deliver better care to patients. Using a bar code scanner and database system, MedTrac recorded, tracked and replenished stock resulting in:

  • Effectively managed and maintained stock-on-hand and in doing so removed wastage caused by obsolete or expired stock.
  • Enabling professional and technical staff to devote more time to their core functions by releasing them of administrative duties associated with replenishment (such as counting stock, writing requisitions, calling suppliers etc). This was achieved by either automating processes or by enabling trained clerical staff to safely perform the role.
  • Improved use of resources by reducing medical device expenditure by at least £300,000 per annum and by progressively freeing up £1.2m in cash flow.
  • Increased patient safety by removing the potential risks associated with stock shortages and expiries.

Consignment Inventory

Global Cardiology Manufacturer Uses MedTrac to Reduce Write-Offs

A global cardiology manufacturer was expanding geographic coverage of its new product technology. Due to a short shelf life, the product was at a great risk of write-offs. New regulatory requirements made it imperative to track to the lot level in many of these new markets. The company implemented MedTrac to help manage its consigned stocks across Asia gaining lot level visibility to meet regulatory requirements and improving inventory management resulting in lower write-off risk.

Management and Materials Management Efficiency

A Brief Comparative Case Study Omuta / Alfred Hospitals

This study considers a single aspect of the supply chain problem . working capital management and control . as it impacts two hospitals on different sides of the world. One has attempted . and abandoned . an effort to achieve control through a business process reform approach intended to be supported by suitable tools at a point in time, reverting to a manual replenishment process supported by a legacy system. The second hospital addressed in this study has implemented a browser-based solution (MedTrac.) that uses proprietary bar code scanning system with the ability to capture usage at all points of the supply chain and automate previously manual processes . such as inventory management and procurement.

White Paper

Reducing Hospital Waster Using Open Supply Automation

For hospitals seeking to reduce waste, it is essential to improve the supplies management processes. Studies have shown that the level of waste (obsolescence, expiry, damaged, special need duplicated) is generally around 20% of all items on hand . with a further 25-30% of on hand stock in excess of requirements and therefore at greater risk of becoming obsolete, expiring or being damaged. Efficiently identifying and managing supplies within and to the hospital will help to reduce waste, increase profits and improve process management.
