Distributor

Solutions for Distributors
Overview
MedTrac™ for Hospital Logistics
MedTrac for Consignment
MedTrac for Spare Parts Tracking

Overview

Medical distributors operate in an increasingly difficult environment. Competition is fierce, profits are under pressure and hospitals are demanding higher levels of service.

Distributor inventory problems are similar to those of hospitals but compounded as they typically rely on manual or semi-automated processes to manage their inventories and have poor visibility into hospital inventories as they rely on the hospital for data (i.e. hospital may not have a system). The result is poorly managed internal inventories and difficulties servicing hospitals, as they must react to hospital demands rather than proactively anticipating needs. Lack of visibility also hurts distributors' ability to efficiently plan logistics, further impacting productivity and increasing costs.

MedTrac provides distributors with a system to track products at their own warehouse as well as at hospitals and order online from manufacturers. As a result the distributors gain more control over their products. Waste is also reduced since hospitals only receive the products needed.

MedTrac for Hospital Logistics

This solution is targeted at distributors who manage inventory at a hospital. By using MedTrac, the distributor receives exact usage information via scanning tracking cards, cycle counts or a link from the hospital system. This information is then used to determine how much of each product is needed in each ward. Restocking and counting is quicker and easier. Reordering can be automated and orders can be consolidated. Waste due to expiration is reduced since the distributor has visibility to the expiration dates of the product at each hospital and can make decisions accordingly.

MedTrac for Consignment

This solution focuses on the unique requirements of consigned inventories and is targeted at distributors who manage consignment inventory at the hospital for a specific manufacturer. Product consumption is tracked by patient, procedure and doctor. This information can then be electronically transmitted to suppliers for reordering. The manufacturer receives visibility of lot information, product expiry and used product. This information helps to ensure payment of actual product used, enables lot tracking by patient and helps manufacturers reduce product expiry risk thus reducing obsolescence.

MedTrac for Spare Parts Tracking

This solution provides visibility of spare parts inventory and enables field service engineers to locate required spare parts to service medical equipment as quickly as possible. Often field service engineers find that they do not have the necessary part to fix the equipment once they have diagnosed the problem on site. Using mobile technology the field service engineer can search for the required parts to repair the equipment. The solution is targeted at distributors who manage spare parts for medical equipment manufacturers.
